Don’t be a Donkey
I have been a donkey for most of my life.
In fact, I am still a donkey even when I intellectually know that I shouldn’t be one.
Let me explain.
Derek Sivers (Author of an excellent book that you should read “Anything you want” – I have read/listen to it at least 4-5 times) wrote a blog back in 2011 HERE
In the blog, he uses this story:
“Buridan’s donkey is standing halfway between a pile of hay and a bucket of water. It keeps looking left and right, trying to decide between hay and water. Unable to decide, it eventually falls over and dies of hunger and thirst.Don’t be a donkey. A donkey can’t think of the future. If he could, he’d clearly realise he could first drink the water, then go eat the hay.”
This thinking has trapped me. And it gets worse as the years goes by. There are many times when I feel like years are slipping by, and I need to achieve things faster, or I will never achieve them at all.
Many of us have been chasing – Which leads to “mastering” nothing.
Removing the pressure to have it ALL now – creates a space to enjoy LIFE – in the moment.
The Process.
You have time. You don’t need to do it ALL this week.
(But remember… this doesn’t mean it gives you an excuse to waste it.)
I remember hearing Tony Robbins say once:
“Most people over-estimate what they can do in one year, and underestimate what they can do in 10 years.”
Before you plan for 2017, consider thinking about what you WANT for your future, then put into place what you need to focus on to create that FUTURE you want.
Don’t be a Donkey.
P.S. These are “wild” donkeys from Ireland in a town called Ballyvaughan where I did BraveSoul in July. Those of you who know this place – these donkeys are icons.
